Our Mission

  • The South Slope Dog Owners Association has adopted the park land located on 18th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues close to the corner of 7th Avenue. Our mission is to improve the quality of life in the Greenwood Heights area by creating and maintaining dog friendly space, encouraging beautification of green space, promoting awareness of laws and etiquette relating to dog ownership, and fostering positive interaction between dog owners and the community as a whole.

Dog Park Rules & Regulations

  • Owners are legally responsible for their dogs and any injuries caused by them.
  • Hours of operation are dawn until dusk.
  • Owners must clean up after their dogs.
  • Dogs entering run must be licensed, fully immunized and free of any contagious conditions.
  • Dogs should wear a collar and ID tags at all times.
  • Dogs in heat are not allowed in the run.
  • Owners must possess a leash at all times.
  • Dogs must be leashed before entering and prior to leaving the park.
  • Owners must stop their dogs from digging holes and must fill any that have been dug.
  • Owners must discourage their dogs from barking.
  • Dogs are not to be left in run unattended. Owners must be inside the run with their dogs at all times.
  • Dogs with aggressive tendencies should not be brought into the run and must be removed.
  • Dogs with a history of aggressive behavior will not be permitted.
  • For their safety, small children are not allowed in the run unaccompanied.
  • No more than four dogs per person.
  • Violators will be subject to removal from the park and suspension of park privileges.

Thanks South Slope Dog Owners Association!

Dear Pam and South Slope Dog Lovers,
 
John and I are so excited about being a part of your dog loving community.  We really enjoyed meeting you at Coffee Bark.  You worked so hard to establish the South Slope Dog Run and it is our pleasure to be a small part of your ongoing efforts to maintain the dog run as a community resource.  We were glad to help promote responsible dog ownership and common sense solutions to prevent dog fights, which we will add in a follow up post.

Dogged determination, and hope from Obama, brings pooch playground closer to reality

He may not have followed through on his promise for comprehensive immigration reform, or reduced the nation’s dependence on oil — but at least President Obama can point to a future dog park in the South Slope as one of his accomplishments.

Community Board 7 has signed off on a dog run in the “pocket park” on 18th Street between Sixth and Seventh avenues — and dog lover Pam Brown said she became inspired to push for the pup playpen after watching Obama’s inauguration in 2008.
